My name is Anna, and I'm an activist for disability and accessibility rights in my city, adgitator of many on-line communities, and advocate for my husband, Don, who has Marfan's Syndrome. I'm also an historian who writes about the history of disability, currently focusing on education and charity work in nineteenth century Nova Scotia. I'm currently in the "temporarily non-disabled" category.

My reason for joining the community was both as support - I'm fairly vocal about the need for the temporarily non-disabled to be both listeners and advocates for people with disabilities, since we're more likely to have the time and energy - and because Don doesn't have the spoons to read through a lot of the internet and find things that are helpful/relevant to him. I tend to keep an eye on the disabled blogosphere looking for posts for him to read, when I have the time myself. (Thesis! It ate me!)

Would folks in the community mind if I posted book reviews for books about disability and accessibility? I'm reading a lot of them at the moment for my own purposes, and will be reviewing them anyway. These would be non-academic reviews.

I, personally, would love it if you did.

I'd love it if you posted book reviews – I've been reading mostly on-line for the last year or so, but I'd like to get back to longer and/or heavier-duty books. I'd actually be interested in (reasonably general) academic ones as well, if you run across any you want to recommend, or recommend against.

I'd be interested! As I want to actually do more reading on this, but I run into the problem where I actively don't want to wade through the drek to find the stuff that's worth it (I'll phrase this flippantly by saying it's bad for my bloodpressure), so it'd be nice to have someone I know by association to be sensible's take on things. (I know of you through [personal profile] staranise).

Another vote for I'd be interested in reading them if you did.
